Do I have the courage equal to that of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego? If and when I become threatened and commanded to renounce my faith, will I be able to answer with the grace and assurance as these brave Hebrew men? Or will I melt from the heat?
Over and over in scripture, God tells His mighty fighting men to be strong and courageous. Why would He have to continually remind these brave and fearless men? I can only imagine that they must have been just as afraid of fiery trials, as you and I are today. Why else would God have said it so often in His Word? God knows that we are going to go through many things that will test our strength and resolve. Will we be able to stand as Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego stood and declare, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” (Daniel 3:16-18)
How was it that these men could make such a bold statement? They must have known beyond the shadow of a doubt that God was worthy of that kind of commitment. They knew Him so well that they could stand right in front of a blazing hot furnace and make a statement that they would stand with their God no matter what. Even if the Lord chose to allow them to burn up in that furnace, they declared they would not bow before this mighty king!
My prayer today, for myself and for each of you is that we might get to know our Great and Mighty God in such a way! Father God, I ask that You would teach us through Your Word and through Holy Spirit today how to access that boldness, that warrior spirit that You built inside each and every one of Your children. I know, God that we have been fully equipped with every weapon necessary to attain victory. You have given us Your Word as our weapon, Your Holy Spirit as our Teacher. Help us to be brave and dauntless in the face of adversity. As the days grow darker, God, You have promised in Your Word, that Your light would shine brighter upon us, Your people. Help us to seek You and Your wisdom and strength each and every day, and to know that You will NEVER leave us, even in the midst of the fiery furnace! I thank You for Your blessings and Your peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
